in Reno overlooks the city below. It has a wonderful view of a broad expanse of sky

and various foothills and mountains beyond.

In a way this location bespeaks the harmonious relationship we have with the beauty of our environment and the local community of Reno to whom we are bonded by ties of love, prayer and personal relationship.
Our Community was founded from Indianapolis Carmel in 1954 and built on strong foundations of faith and willingness to embrace whatever it took to build a thriving Community of prayer and mutual love after the heart of Teresa. We look back to these beginnings with great gratitude and recognize the seeds that were planted in the early decades have not only taken root but have blossomed into our 2006 CARMEL OF RENO.

The guests who come to us for visits or retreat, those whom we have welcomed to share our life and those who come regularly to celebrate our Liturgy or join us in prayer, tell us in many ways that we are a welcoming and loving community. We are glad to hear this as it is what we want to continue to be.

Part of what enriches us is the diversity we enjoy. In some ways we are an amalgamation of our sisters from Indianapolis, three sisters who entered here and the rest who have transferred.

There is a wealth of creativity and the freedom to express this in art, music, liturgy, writing and many other endeavors including gardening and cooking!

Over the years our Print Shop has expanded and grown. This work was begun in an effort to be self supporting and it continues to help in that way. The Print Shop also offers many other "by products". It provides a ready discipline in the PERT CHART we must follow as we go through the sequence of design, processing, printing, advertising, and selling our cards.

The two brochures we mail annually to over 3000 people feature Spring/Easter cards in late winter and Christmas cards in late summer.
Our Annual Open House in November is a major occasion for local people to come to the Monastery, visit the Chapel and purchase cards, prints, original art work and books that we sell. We do not have a Gift shop but we do have a display of our cards in the foyer and people come to purchase them year round.

We are now a community of eighteen: 14 Chapter members, 2 in temporary transfer and 2 guests. All of us rejoice in the gifts we have received and try to offer that back in loving service. God is praised in all.
