Contemplative Focus

 

      

To Begin Anew

It is only with the heart that one sees rightly, what is essential is invisible to the eye.” Antoine de Saint-Exupery

 

Pondering the above words spoken by The Little Prince another saying comes to mind.  It is found on the card designed by Sr. Susan Weber, OCD, which reminds us: “what we do with our heart affects the whole universe”

Reflecting on these two sayings I believe we can find a wonderful place to begin anew during this time of the New Year.  The place is one of quiet and deep awareness. A place were we are all called to take the time and space to be mindful and present to each moment so that we can see with our hearts how to live rightly.  It is this “seeing” that will draw us toward enlarging the horizons of our understanding in compassion and love for each other and our world.  In our simple openness to God at every moment may our heart and prayer hold the world’s deepest needs, and in this, may our life continue to affect the whole universe.
