Beacon Carmel

Biography
My vocation to Carmel found its genesis while at Regis College in Weston, Massachusetts, in the late 1940's. There the faith seemed so alive! It became my ideal preparation for the newly founded Carmel in Concord, New Hampshire. Mother Aloysius, who is regarded by many as a true saint, became my spiritual mentor. Our community was poor, young, and eager. It thrived in the joyful spirit of Teresa. There I was encouraged to use my artistic talent for painting and illuminating. I found then and still find that Carmelite life fosters my call to loving intimacy with God. Through my life with God, I can hope to share in the salvation of the world.
In 1964, four of us were asked to join the Carmel in Vermont. During this new time of growth as a person and as artist/pray-er, I could prayerfully focus on my art in a more unified way. With freedom and enthusiasm I specialized in watercolor landscapes, using the new transparent colors. Beauty become my way to God.
On August 24, 2000, the three Carmels of Barre, Vermont; Saranac Lake, New York; and Beacon New York united to found a new Carmel: the Carmel of the Incarnation of Beacon, New York. In this creative moment, we seek with God's help to bring Carmel into the third millennium with renewed vitality.
I cannot imagine a more wonderful life!
