Sister Jacqueline Oliger + Beacon Carmel
Sr. Jacqueline Oliger, OCD of the Carmelite Monastery in Beacon, New York passed away on February 14, 2006 at Ferncliff Nursing home in Rhinebeck , New York where she had been a resident for three months. Sister was 76.
Sr. Jacqueline of the Holy Face (Jacqueline Clare Oliger) was born in Indianapolis , Indiana on September 22, 1929, the daughter of Mary and James Oliger.She entered the Carmelite Monastery in Williston , Vermont in 1052, and on May 27, 1954 made her profession of vows. Early on she was entrusted with the finances of the Carmelite community and continued serving in this capacity for many years.In 1964 the community moved from Williston to Barre , Vermont where Sr. Jacqueline served a Prioress for several terms. In 1997 the Vermont Carmelite united with the sisters of Beacon , New York and Saranac Lake , New York to form a new community in Beacon, the Carmel of the Incarnation.Sr. Jacqueline is survived by a sister, Mary Lee Hagarty of Lockport , Illinois , a sister-in-law, Micky (Mrs. James) Oliger of Davenport, Iowa , many nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.Rev. Reid C. Mayo, Pastor of Christ the King Church in Rutland, Vermont was the celebrant at the Mass of Christian Burial at the Carmelite Monastery, 89 Hidden brooke Drive, Beacon, New York on Friday, February 17. Six priest concelebrated with Fr. Mayo. Many relatives and friends joined the Carmelite community for the services for Sr. Jacqueline. Burial followed at Ascension Cemetery , Monsey , New York .
